Pet Beds FAQs
Why are dogs and cats such popular pets?
Dogs and cats are among the most intelligent animals. Pigs are arguably smarter, but western society has an aversion to keeping a pig in the house. No such aversion exists for felines and canines. Both species also have a long history with man, we’ve been keeping them as pets for more than 4,000 years. We don’t know exactly how far back we go together, but we’re comfortable in the presence of one another for the most part now.
What is the most popular pet?
Dogs are the most popular, followed by cats. This may be simple longevity. Dogs were the first domesticated animal. Cats aren’t domesticated in the same sense that dogs are, but they have also had a long haul as a companion.
What are the expected life spans of different dog breeds?
In general, 1 year of time is equal to 7 years of human life for dogs. That makes a 14 year old dog 98 in human years. Smaller dogs tend to outlive larger ones, though the difference is marginal at best. Scientists suspect this is because smaller dogs put less wear and tear on their body during the course of their lives. Old large dogs are infamous for having hip problems, which is the basis for that school of thought. Purebreds are actually likely to live a shorter life than a mutt. Pure bred dogs are actually inbred, and so many of the genetic deficiencies of the breed are magnified through generations of selective breeding.
